KITCHEN COORDINATOR

POSITION SUMMARY

The Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of MMH’s food service including kitchen operations, food-service management, and food safety. Collaborates with Manager of Kitchen Services with daily operations of the kitchen, according to Hospice policy & procedures and public health regulations. Provides leadership and guidance to ensure that food quality, safety standards, and resident expectations are satisfactory met.

 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY (Other duties may be assigned)

 

  1. Kitchen Operations: train kitchen staff, assist in developing work schedules, develop a 14-day menu, maintain inventory.
  2. Food-service: prepare food that meets therapeutic and nutritional diet needs of residents, prepare baked goods for residents, families and visitors, interact with residents, families and visitors to ensure their satisfaction and that their needs are met.
  3. Food Safety: use and train staff on safe food handling and preparation procedures in accordance with the public health unit, maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Necessary:

  • Food Handler’s Certificate (or need to obtain within 3 months of hire)
  • WHMIS Certification
  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of kitchen management experience
  • Clear Criminal Record Check

Preferred:

  • Experience in menu planning, scheduling & training kitchen personnel
  • Prior related experience in a commercial setting
  • Bilingualism (English/French), written and verbal, (or willingness to pursue) is an asset

Skills:

  • Skill in motivating and coaching kitchen personnel
  • Must possess skills in cooking, food preparation, and serving functions
  • Working knowledge of food service industry standards and regulations and Canada’s Food Guide
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Organizational and time management abilities
  • Physically able to perform the duties of the position and stand for majority of the shift
  • Empathetic and demonstrate a sincere interest in people and possess a genuine sensitivity to their needs
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and take initiative

The student Personal Support Worker (PSW) will assist in the following: activities of daily living (bathing, oral hygiene, hair; washing, peri-care, finger/toenail care), dressing, toileting (including colostomy care and managing catheter drainage bags), mobility (including using equipment or mechanical lift) and feeding. Additional duties may include tidying up workspace, applying splints or protective dressings, caring of body after death, providing emotional support to residents & families, meal preparation, laundry and terminal cleaning of rooms. The student PSW will work in a safe and healthy manner and follow the regulations in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • 35 hours per week / Monday to Sunday on rotating shift (start date – July 2, 2024; end date – August 23, 2024)

Also collaborates with the Kitchen Manager on  daily operations of the kitchen, according to Hospice policy & procedures and public health regulations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Necessary:

  • 2 years’ experience in cooking, food preparation and serving functions
  • Possess or acquire Food Handler’s certification within 3 months of hire
  • Possess or acquire WHMIS certification within 3 months of hire
  • Positive attendance record
  • Clear criminal record check
  • Fully vaccinated against Covid-19

Preferred:

  • Prior cooking experience in a commercial setting

COMMUNITY HOSPICE PALLIATIVE CARE NURSE (RN)

Part-time Position (averaging 30 hours / 4 shifts bi-weekly)

Working alternate Monday & Thursday (8:30 am to 4:30 pm)

& every second weekend (Saturday & Sunday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm)

POSITION SUMMARY

As part of the Hospice Palliative Care Team (HPCT), the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing telephone support / consultation to clients that have a life limiting illness and are in the last year of life, and their caregivers.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Provides comprehensive telephone assessments with a holistic approach, to address pain and symptoms experienced during multiple illness trajectories of life limiting illness
  • Performs assessments, care plan development and ongoing monitoring of each client in accordance with the established Maison McCulloch Hospice (MMH) Policies and Procedures
  • Reports all findings to the assigned Most Responsible Provider (MRP) whether this is the Physician or Nurse Practitioner
  • Schedules home visits for these providers so that client’s ongoing needs are met
  • Collaborates with the North East Cancer Centre, “Ontario Health atHome” and their contracted nursing providers

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Necessary:

  • BScN in Nursing with a certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum of 5 years full-time equivalent nursing experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and family in person or via telephone and troubleshoot any of their concerns
  • Receptive to ongoing education in Hospice Palliative Care
  • Must have valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Clear Vulnerable Person Check

 Preferred:

  • Recent minimum of 2 years full-time equivalent in Hospice Palliative Care (HPC) experience
  • Certified or receptive toward achieving certification in Hospice Palliative Care with the Canadian Nurses Association (CHPCN(C) designation)
  • Proficiency in French, (verbal and written)
  • Experience providing telephone nursing in a sensitive and compassionate manner
  • Ability to develop a plan of care with clients, primary caregivers and community providers
  • Strong knowledge of community resources and ability to refer as needed for various community services

 Personal Skills:

  • Demonstrates at all times clinical autonomy
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications Microsoft Office, (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Self-directed with exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Manager of Supportive Care and Grief Services (MSCGS), the Supportive Care and Grief Services Associate is responsible for assisting with the delivery of the Supportive Care (Psycho-social and Spiritual/Religious Care) and Grief Services Program (SCGS) to Maison McCulloch Hospice (MMH) residents and Community Hospice Palliative Care Team (CHPCT) clients, their families, staff and volunteers.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Provision of supportive care and grief services to residents / clients, their families and hospice staff and volunteers
  • Build strong internal & external relationships
  • Training & education
  • Self-care and other related duties

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Necessary:

  • Bachelor’s degree relevant to supportive/spiritual and religious care (or equivalent)
  • Training in counselling / coaching
  • Advanced knowledge relating to Grief and Bereavement
  • Experience in Hospice Palliative Care (HPC)
  • Experience in clinical supportive/spiritual care and/or other relevant experience
  • Experience in dealing with death and dying; in Grief support (one-on-one, group)
  • Proficient in both official languages (English/French)
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Availability to be on-call 1 weekend of 4 or 5
  • Availability for vacation coverage (Manager and other Associates)

Preferred:

  • Certification in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
  • Certification in Grief Recovery or other program specific to Grief and Bereavement

Other Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of the history and philosophy of HPC and of MMH
  • knowledgeable of the Model of Care and all services offered by MMH
  • Ability and willingness to work in multi-faith and multi-cultural contexts
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Speaking in public and group leadership
  • Demonstrates compassion, diplomacy, discretion, sensitivity, and respect for others
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team,
  • Provides leadership where required
  • Knowledgeable of community resources related to supportive care and grief services

Salary:   Hourly wage         starting at $31.84 / hour (commensurate with education and experience)

On-call fee           $25.00 / night   and   $100.00 / weekend (5 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday)
